After taking out a funeral plan with us, there are a number of steps Capital Life advises that you take next to ensure that you will be getting the most out of your plan.
1. Check that you are happy with the Plan Terms
From the day that you take out the plan you will have a 21 day cooling off period to ensure that you have time to read through your plan terms and documents and decide that you are happy with your plan. If for whatever reason within the 21 days you decide that the plan is not for you, then you will be able to cancel the plan without incurring a cancellation fee.
It is important that you inform your loved ones that you have taken out the plan. This will mean that they will be clear on what to do when the time comes. Read through the terms and ensure that you are clear on what is and is not covered in the funeral plan that you have chosen.
2. Inform your Next of Kin
Your next of kin is the person who will need to inform us that the plan will need to be used in the time of need, therefore they play a vital role in the process. Selecting and informing your next of kin is vital as they need to know who you have taken a plan out with, where you will store the plan documents and what they will need to do in the eventuality of a bereavement.
3. Complete the Funeral Wishes Document
With your welcome pack you will receive a personal Funeral Wishes document for you to make note of any specific requirements that you have for your funeral. This could be a choice of music, hymns or even a certain type of attire such as sports jerseys of your favourite team. These personal touches will make your funeral a celebration of your life and imperative in ensuring that your funeral is a true reflection of you.
Documenting your wishes with your funeral plan and discussing with loved ones will ensure that your wishes will be carried out where possible and your funeral will be exactly how you would have wanted. Whilst the document does not form part of your Funeral Plan, it is for those left behind to know those little touches that you would like.
4. Keep Documents in a safe place
Your Funeral Plan documents will need to be kept in a safe and secure place and be sure to inform your next of kin where this is. Keep your plan certificate at the front of your document folder as this includes the plan number and details. Having access to these documents at the time of need will make matters simpler when arranging the funeral and using the plan.
5. Alert Capital Life of any changes
Be sure to keep your and your next of kin’s personal details up to date including address, phone number and email address.
